Up North - Chiang Rai

Chiang Rai
After we left Chiang Rai we headed to our last stop, Chiang Rai. This northern city borders Burma and is where a lot of hill tribe people live. I knew it was going to be a great experience when the owner of the Bamboo Nest picked Mike and I up at the bus station holding this cute puppy. :)

The drive took about an hour and got us "off the grid" we found ourselves making a journey up a crazy steep road like this, through a small tribe village. It was neat to see people living in huts without electricity.
When we got there we were given our own bamboo hut to stay in. It had a patio with a hammock and a beautiful view. So different from other parts of Thailand we had seen. It was nice because it was a little cooler up north, making the lack of any a/c more tolerable.

Our experience there was much more relaxed. The only other people there were the owners Nok and Noi. They prepared all our meals. During the day we hung out with the puppy, read books, took a weaving course and even hiked to a waterfall.

The owner's dog Kao was by our side the entire time. He slept on our bamboo porch and was our guide when we went to the waterfall. When we asked Noi how to get there, she said, "Just follow Kao." He waited for us to swim and enjoy the water and took us home. Although Mike was unsuccessful at getting him to join us in the water.

An example of the spirit houses that almost each property has. It gives the owners the chance to appease the spirits they kicked off the property when the built their house. The put daily offerings on it of water, food, flowers etc.

The view of the "resort", our hut is the one on the far right.

Could they be any cuter ? :) Brings a smile to my face.

Walking our luggage back down to the village on our way home.
